Grade 7 for aggressive hot acids. Rare. Most buyers don't need it.

Seamless titanium tube for industrial heat exchangers is usually Grade 2. Ask for Grade 12 if your water is warm.

No tube sheet crevice issues. Tube-to-tubesheet joints can trap stagnant water. Grade 12 handles this. Grade 2 does okay.

Fabrication for tube sheets

 

Rolling titanium tubes into tube sheets is different from steel.

Titanium work-hardens. Use controlled rolling pressure. Too light and the tube leaks. Too heavy and you crack the tube.

Tube end preparation matters. Clean. Deburred. No scratches. Scratches become crack starters under rolling pressure.

Tube-to-tubesheet welding is common for critical service. Purge the tube side with argon. Weld inside the tube end or from the tubesheet face. Use matching filler. ERTi-2 for Grade 2.

Testing and certification

 

ASTM B338 requires:

  • Hydrostatic pressure test. Every tube. No exceptions.
  • Flattening test. Sample from each lot.

  • Eddy current or ultrasonic NDT. Finds wall defects.
  • We provide the reports. Heat number traceable. Full mill test reports.

FAQ

 

Q: Why seamless instead of welded for exchangers?

A: Seamless has no weld seam. In a bundle with thousands of tubes, vibration and thermal cycling can crack weld seams over time. Seamless eliminates that risk. Higher cost. Higher reliability.

Q: Grade 2 or Grade 12 for seawater service?

A: Grade 2 works for most seawater. Use Grade 12 for seawater above 50°C or if you have tight crevices at tube sheets. Grade 12 costs more but handles hot brine better.

Q: Can I bend seamless titanium tube?

A: Yes but carefully. Use a mandrel bender. Minimum bend radius 3x OD for thin wall. 5x OD for thick wall. Titanium springs back more than steel. Overbend slightly.

Q: What certifications come with the tube?

A: Mill test reports with heat number. ASTM B338 cert. Hydro test report. NDT report. EN 10204 3.1 standard. 3.2 available.

Q: Lead time for seamless exchanger tube?

A: Stock sizes (15.9mm, 19mm, 25.4mm OD) ship in 10–14 days. Non-stock sizes take 4–6 weeks from mill. Large quantities (over 5000 pieces) take 6–8 weeks.
