Description

What this pipe is for

Moving chemicals from point A to point B. Corrosive ones. Hot ones. Nasty ones that eat stainless steel for breakfast.

Industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation is what plant engineers switch to after replacing stainless pipes twice. No pitting. No crevice corrosion. No stress cracking. Just a pipe that stays pipe.

Chlorides. Sulfuric acid. Nitric acid. Seawater. Wet chlorine. Titanium handles them all.

Why titanium wins in chemical service

Steel pipe rusts from the inside. Stainless pipe pits in chlorides. Non-metallic pipe (FRP, PVC) can't take high temperature or high pressure.

Titanium does none of those things. Oxide layer forms. Stays put. Chlorides don't break it. Acids don't dissolve it.

Industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation gives you a corrosion allowance of zero. Design the wall for pressure only. No extra thickness for rust. No replacement schedule for wall loss.

It costs more upfront. Lasts longer than the plant.

Which grade for which chemical

GradeBest forCorrosion resistance
2Chlorides, seawater, dilute H2SO4, HNO3Excellent general purpose
7Hot reducing acids, hot HCl, hot dilute H2SO4Superior (palladium added)
12Hot seawater, crevice conditions, moderate acidsBetter than Gr2, less than Gr7

Grade 2 is the workhorse. Most chemical plants use Grade 2 for chlorides, nitric acid, and dilute sulfuric.

Grade 7 adds palladium. Expensive. Use it for hot reducing acids where Grade 2 shows attack. Hot hydrochloric acid. Hot dilute sulfuric.

Grade 12 adds molybdenum and nickel. Cost between Gr2 and Gr7. Good for hot brine and crevice conditions.

For industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation, Grade 2 is the starting point. Upgrade if your chemistry demands it.

Where this pipe runs

Chemical plants. Transfer lines for chlorinated solvents. Brine lines. Dilute acid lines. Industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation runs overhead, underground, and through pipe racks.

  • Desalination plants. Brine transfer. High temperature. Grade 12 pipe.
  • Offshore platforms. Seawater lines. Chemical injection lines. Grade 2.
  • Pulp and paper. Bleach plant piping. Chlorine dioxide service.
  • Pharmaceutical. Clean chemical transfer. No rust particles. No contamination.
  • Pickling lines in steel mills. Hydrochloric and nitric acid mixtures.
  • Every one of these places killed stainless pipe. Titanium pipe keeps going.

Seamless vs welded for chemical pipe

Seamless pipe. No weld seam. Preferred for high pressure, high temperature, or critical service. Costs more. Available up to 219mm OD.

Welded pipe. Rolled from strip. Seam annealed. Less expensive. Available in larger diameters. Fine for most chemical transfer at moderate pressure.

Both meet ASTM B861 (seamless) or B862 (welded). Both pass hydrostatic test. Both have full traceability.

For industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation, most buyers choose seamless for critical lines and welded for general transfer. Tell us your pressure and service.

Fabrication and welding

Titanium pipe welds like titanium tube. Same rules.

Argon purge inside the pipe. Shielding gas outside. Clean the weld area. No oil. No dirt. No fingerprints.

For industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation, we supply pipe ends beveled for welding. Standard 30° bevel. Land width 1.5mm.

Pipe supports matter. Titanium is stiff but not as stiff as steel. Support spacing similar to stainless steel. Don't let titanium pipe rub against carbon steel - use plastic or rubber liners at contact points.

Thermal expansion is about half of stainless steel. Account for it in pipe routing.

Flanges and fittings

Titanium pipe needs titanium fittings. Same grade as the pipe.

Flanges: Slip-on, weld neck, blind. Grade 2 or Grade 5 (stronger for bolting).

Elbows, tees, reducers: Seamless or welded. Same schedule as the pipe.

We supply complete pipe spools. Welded. Beveled. Capped. Ready to install.

For industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation, don't mix grades. Grade 2 pipe with Grade 7 fitting creates a galvanic couple in some acids. Keep it matching.

Testing and certification

ASTM B861 (seamless) and B862 (welded) require:

Hydrostatic pressure test. Every pipe.

Flattening test (for welded pipe). Sample per lot.

Ultrasonic or eddy current NDT. Finds wall defects.

We provide full mill test reports with heat number traceability. EN 10204 3.1 standard. 3.2 available.

FAQ

Q: Grade 2 or Grade 7 for my acid service?

A: Start with Grade 2. If you see attack in lab tests or field experience, move to Grade 7. Grade 7 costs much more. Only use it when needed.

Q: What wall thickness do I need for titanium?

A: No corrosion allowance. Design for pressure only. Use standard schedules (Sch 5S, 10S, 40S). For most chemical transfer, Sch 10S is fine. Steel pipe needs thicker wall.

Q: What certifications come with the pipe?

A: Mill test reports, hydro test cert, NDT report, ASTM B861 or B862 cert. Heat number traceable.

Q: Lead time for titanium pipe?

A: Stock sizes (25.4mm, 33.4mm, 48.3mm, 60.3mm, 88.9mm OD) ship in 10–14 days. Non-stock sizes take 4–6 weeks. Large orders (over 10 tons) take 8–10 weeks.

The bottom line

Chemical transportation is tough on pipe. Stainless fails. FRP can't take heat. Steel rusts.

Industrial titanium pipe for chemical transportation solves the problem. Zero corrosion allowance. No pitting. No rust.

Grade 2 for most chemicals. Grade 7 for hot reducing acids. Grade 12 for hot brine.

Design for pressure only. Weld it once. Forget it for decades.
