Description

What it is

Some medical implants need a hole through the middle. Guide wires pass through. Bone grows through. Cement flows through.

Precision cannulated titanium bar is hollow bar made to tight tolerances. Concentric. Straight. Smooth inside and out.

Not all cannulated bar is the same. Precision means the inner hole is perfectly centered. Wall thickness is consistent. The bar slides over a guide wire without binding.

Cannulated screws. Intramedullary nails. Dental implants. Surgical instruments. Any implant that works over a guide wire.

Why precision matters

A cannulated implant slides over a guide wire. If the inner hole is off-center, the implant binds. Won't slide. Won't pass.

If the wall thickness varies, the thin side collapses under torque. Screw strips. Implant fails.

If the inner bore is rough, the guide wire catches. Surgeon pushes harder. Wire bends.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, every dimension is controlled. Concentricity. Straightness. Surface finish. Wall thickness.

Which grade for which application

Grade Material Tensile Best for
Grade 23 ELI Ti-6Al-4V 860 MPa Load-bearing implants. Screws. Nails.
Grade 4 CP Pure titanium 550 MPa Non-load-bearing. Instruments.

Grade 23 ELI is the standard for cannulated screws and IM nails. High strength. Thin wall possible.

Grade 4 CP is used for surgical instruments and non-load-bearing applications.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, Grade 23 ELI covers most implant applications.

20.0 14.0 3.0 Mega-prosthesis, custom

Wall thickness from 0.5mm to 3.0mm. Thinner for small screws. Thicker for load-bearing nails.

Critical tolerances for precision cannulated bar

Parameter Tolerance
Concentricity (TIR) ≤ 0.05mm
Inner diameter ±0.025mm
Outer diameter ±0.025mm
Straightness 0.1mm per 300mm
Surface finish (Ra) ≤ 0.2μm
Burrs inside bore None

These tolerances are tighter than standard medical tube. That's what precision means.

Every precision cannulated titanium bar is measured. Report available.

Where precision cannulated bar goes

Cannulated hip screws. For femoral neck fractures. Guide wire first. Screw follows. 5.0mm to 8.0mm outer. 2.5mm to 4.0mm inner.

Cannulated IM nails. Long bones. Guide wire down the center. Nail slides over. 8.0mm to 15.0mm outer. 4.0mm to 10.0mm inner.

Dental implant fixtures. Hollow designs for bone ingrowth. 3.0mm to 6.0mm outer. 1.5mm to 3.0mm inner.

Surgical drills. Hollow drill bits. Irrigation through center. 2.0mm to 5.0mm outer.

Biopsy needles. Outer cannula. 1.5mm to 3.0mm outer. Thin wall. Sharp.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, each application demands perfect concentricity.

How precision cannulated bar is made

Solid bar starts as medical grade rod. Deep hole drilling. Specialized equipment. The drill bit must stay perfectly centered.

Multiple passes. Rough drill. Ream. Hone. Each pass improves concentricity and surface finish.

Then centerless grinding. Outer diameter ground to tolerance while referencing the inner bore. Concentricity maintained.

Straightening. Slow process. No damage to inner bore.

Final inspection. Camera down every bar. Inner surface checked for burrs, steps, roughness.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, the process takes time. But the result is consistent, reliable hollow bar.

Concentricity test method

We test concentricity by measuring wall thickness at multiple points. Same cross section. Rotated 90 degrees.

Maximum wall thickness variation allowed: 0.05mm. That means the hole is centered within 0.025mm.

For a 4.0mm outer with 2.0mm inner, wall thickness is 1.0mm nominal. Variation ≤0.05mm. That's 5% variation. Very precise.

Surface finish inside the bore

Rough inner bore catches the guide wire. Surgeon feels resistance. Pushes harder. Wire bends.

Our inner bore is polished. Ra ≤ 0.2μm. Same as outside.

Process: Drill, ream, hone, then flow polish. Abrasive slurry pushed through. Smooths the inner surface.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, the inside is as smooth as the outside.

Guide wire fit

The inner diameter must match the guide wire with the right clearance.

Guide wire size Recommended inner diameter Clearance
1.5mm 1.6mm 0.1mm
2.0mm 2.1mm 0.1mm
2.5mm 2.65mm 0.15mm
3.0mm 3.2mm 0.2mm
3.5mm 3.7mm 0.2mm
4.0mm 4.2mm 0.2mm

Too tight: binds. Too loose: wobble. Precision inner diameter gives the right fit.

Manufacturing your implant

Precision cannulated bar arrives at your facility. Cut to length. Machine screw threads. Drill locking holes. Add surface treatment. Sterilize.

For precision cannulated titanium bar, the bar is ready for your Swiss lathe or CNC. Consistent diameter. No runout. No surprises.

Traceability

Cannulated implants are medical devices. Full traceability required.

Every precision cannulated titanium bar comes with:

Heat number. Mill test report. ASTM F136 or F67 cert. Chemical analysis. Mechanical test results. Concentricity report. Inner diameter cert.

EN 10204 3.1 standard. 3.2 available.

FAQ

Q: Grade 23 ELI or Grade 4 for cannulated screws?

A: Grade 23 ELI. Screws need high strength. Thin wall. Grade 23 ELI gives you 860 MPa. Grade 4 is 550 MPa.

Q: Minimum wall thickness for a 3.5mm screw?

A: 0.8mm to 0.9mm. Thin enough for guide wire. Strong enough for bone.

Q: What concentricity can you hold?

A: ≤0.05mm TIR. That means wall thickness variation less than 0.05mm.

Q: Can you do small inner diameters?

A: 1.0mm inner is possible. 0.8mm possible but difficult. Larger is easier.

Q: Lead time?

A: Stock sizes 4-5 weeks. Custom sizes 6-8 weeks.

Q: Sample bar?

A: Yes. 200mm sample. Pay material and shipping. Credit back on first production order over $20,000.

The bottom line

Cannulated implants need precision. The inner hole must be centered. The wall must be even. The surface must be smooth.

Precision cannulated titanium bar gives you that.

Grade 23 ELI for strength. Grade 4 for non-load-bearing.

Concentric to 0.05mm. Inner bore polished. Outer diameter precise.

For cannulated screws. For IM nails. For dental implants. For surgical instruments.

Hollow. Precise. Reliable.
