Why choose ASTM B348?
Here's the thing – ASTM B348 focuses on bars used for structural and industrial applications. It doesn't just cover one property and call it done.
Common grades like Gr2 and Gr5 are clearly covered. But there's another point worth mentioning: surface condition.
ASTM B348 sets quantifiable limits on allowable surface defects. No vague descriptions like "smooth enough." When we supply to this standard, we verify surface condition before shipment. You don't find surface issues halfway through machining.
So choosing Titanium rod ASTM B348 industrial standard gives you more than just a shape – it gives you a product backed by inspection and data. We provide test reports with every shipment for acceptance and traceability.

Available grades – which one do you need?
Not all applications need the same material properties. Different grades serve different purposes.
| Grade | Key Feature | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Typical Applications |
| Grade 1 | Softest, most ductile | ≥240 | Chemical processing, marine components |
| Grade 2 | Best balance of properties | ≥345 | Aerospace, heat exchangers, cryogenic vessels |
| Grade 3 | Higher strength than Gr2 | ≥450 | Industrial and marine applications |
| Grade 4 | Strongest commercially pure | ≥550 | Aerospace components, medical implants |
| Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) | High-strength alloy | ≥896 | Aerospace structures, high-performance automotive |
| Grade 7 | Enhanced corrosion resistance | ≥345 | Chemical processing with aggressive media |
| Grade 12 | Good weldability | ≥483 | Industrial equipment |
| Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) | Medical implant grade | ≥896 | Orthopedic and dental implants |
Why Grade 5 is so popular
Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is the most commonly used titanium alloy. For good reason.
It offers strength comparable to steel at roughly half the weight. The Titanium rod ASTM B348 industrial standard for Grade 5 requires minimum tensile strength of 896 MPa (130 ksi) and yield strength of 827 MPa (120 ksi).
If you're trying to save weight but can't give up strength – this is your grade.
Surface treatment options
| Surface Treatment | Characteristics | Best For |
| Pickling | Matte finish, chemically cleaned | General industrial use |
| Polishing | Smooth, reflective finish | Medical devices, aesthetic applications |
| Turning | Precision machined surface | Tight tolerance applications |
Where these rods actually get used

- Aerospace – Not every titanium rod makes the cut for aerospace. Ours go into structural airframe components, engine accessories, and high-strength fasteners. Save weight, handle heat, don't fail under fatigue.
- Medical – Orthopedic and dental implants don't leave room for compromise. Our B348 rods get machined into joint replacements, bone screws, and surgical instruments. Biocompatibility with zero batch-to-batch variation.
- Chemical Processing – Heat exchangers, reactor vessels, process piping. Pick the wrong alloy in aggressive media and you've got a real problem. Here, B348 isn't the premium choice – it's the baseline.
- Marine – Propeller shafts, subsea connectors, deep-water equipment. Saltwater plus sustained stress kills conventional steels fast. B348's corrosion resistance and fatigue strength actually hold up in brine.
- Bottom line: Customers don't pick ASTM B348 because it looks good on paper. They pick it because anything else would be a real problem in these applications.
FAQ
Q: What diameters are available?
A: Titanium rods from 0.125 inches to 2 inches in diameter. Bars larger than 2 inches also available for structural applications. Lengths up to 6000mm.
Q: Do you provide material certificates?
A: Yes. All our Titanium rod ASTM B348 industrial standard products come with MTRs (Material Test Reports) that verify chemical composition and mechanical properties.
Q: What's the typical lead time?
A: Standard sizes in stock – 3–5 business days. Custom sizes or large quantities – 2–4 weeks. Contact us for specific lead times.
Q: Which grade should I pick?
A: Not sure? Tell us what you're making – we'll help you pick. Gr2 is the all-purpose workhorse. Gr5 when you need strength. Gr23 for medical implants.
