Gr5 vs other titanium grades - short version
Gr2 (pure titanium) is softer, easier to machine, but weaker. Tensile ~345 MPa. Good for non-structural parts. Gr5 is about 2.5x stronger.
Gr23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) is medical grade. Same strength, tougher at low temperatures, but more expensive. Most industrial jobs don't need ELI.

Machining Gr5 rod
Titanium is not stainless steel. You cannot run it at high speed.
Use carbide tools. Low surface speed. High feed rate. Rigid setup. Flood coolant. If you see smoke, back off. If the tool squeals, change your parameters.
Threading? Works fine. Use sharp inserts and plenty of coolant. Drilling? Short pecks. Clear chips often. Tapping is harder - consider thread milling instead.
Some buyers ask us to pre-cut and send near-net lengths. Saves them machining time. We can do that.
Straightness and tolerance
Nobody wants a bent rod.
Our Industrial titanium round rod Gr5 comes with straightness of 0.5mm per 1000mm as standard. Tighter straightness available on request.
Diameter tolerance: h6, h7, h9, or h11 depending on your need. Ground rod holds ±0.025mm. Turned rod holds ±0.1mm.
If you don't specify, we ship h9 turned rod. That works for most industrial applications.

Q: What certs come with the rod?
A: Mill test reports with heat number traceability. AMS or ASTM certs. Third-party inspection available. We also supply EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 if your spec requires.
Q: Lead time for Gr5 rod?
A: Stock diameters (6mm to 150mm) ship in 5–10 days. Larger diameters or non-stock sizes take 3–5 weeks from mill. Cut-to-length adds 1–2 days.
Q: Can I get small quantity for testing?
A: Yes. Minimum order for stock rod is one piece. We have buyers who order a single 1-meter bar to qualify the material.
Q: What's the difference between ASTM B348 and AMS 4928?
A: ASTM B348 is general industrial. AMS 4928 is aerospace - tighter chemistry, stricter ultrasonic testing, full traceability. Most buyers use ASTM. Aerospace buyers want AMS.
